About: Roadwarrior's Focal Point represents a collection of photos that have been taken while on the road to different destinations. Whether on the road to work, the mall or on a trip, I try to utilize my camera to seize moments that draw me into my lens. Here is where I will share those moments in a photographic display. It is also an avenue for me to accept your comments, criticism, and suggestions in order for me to improve as an amateur photographer.
The element I will maintain is that these photos are taken on film and are not digitally photographed or altered. What you see is what the film recorded; pure and simple. Ninety percent of my shooting consists of slides, the balance are prints. The only digitization done is the scanning into a media where I can display the photos on my site. Any alterations that may be done will be cropping.
With that being said, let me express my view of digital photography. I'm not against digital photography or technological improvements, they have their place; I just think that digital (manipulation) and film photography should be separate. I realize the same techniques and expertise apply to both Medias, but how much post creativity is applied for presentation and appearance? How does creativity though the lens differ from creativity on the screen? How much design, creativity and manipulation are applied before the image is no longer a photograph? When my kids route though the attic after I am dead and buried, what will they find; pictures in a shoe box of my past or digital storage which is out-dated and can't be viewed? Freeman Paterson makes some interesting observations on 'Digital Imaging' in the September 2005 Vol. 30 issue of Photolife (special attention on the last paragraph).
That my thoughts...
Equipment: I'm a Nikon junkie. My primary camera is the F100 and I use an F801 as a back-up or secondary camera. I also have an F60 which has a lot of road mileage. When I get really ambitious (and loose my mind) my FM comes into action, but that has now become a rare occurrence. I have three main lenses; Nikon AF 20-35 f2.8, Nikon AF 24-120mm f3.5-5.6, and Nikon 70-300 f4-5.6. I use a circular polarizer, but rarely any filters.
Me and support: My name is Mike. I have been dabbling in photography since high school, thanks to a high school buddy, Mike Giberson who sparked my interest with his talent. I have moved through the SLRs from Yashica, and Olympus to my current destination ... Nikon.
My technical support comes from my son Ben, who has not only graciously volunteered his site to host my pictures, but also set up the site and maintains it. He's the computer Guru of the family and I abuse him for his talent... any opportunity I can.
